We were very fortunate when we met Steve McDonald from Arbor Age. The reason I say this is that the way in which he writes and article is FANTASTIC. He has produced ARMED TO ARBOUR in the latest edition of Arbor Age and it’s one of the more amusing and interesting articles that we have had!! Mind you the fact that the ELCAS service leaver guys played a large part in the interview process certainly helped the content along …. Thank you Stuart Watson for the term …”Constable Kirks crap dits”! Not only is this term of endearment used as a headline in the article; you can often hear it bantered around the office. I truly believe Mr Tim Kirk will never be free of this comment being directed his way!

I think the magazine is going to do a follow up on all of the service leaver who were interviewed so watch this space and we’ll do all we can to keep you posted in the successes of David, Stuart, Carl and Ross.

You can visit Arbor Age at: www.arborage.co.uk

Ross Jones took quite a risk when he signed up to join our 1 month intensive Chainsaw course. He had been toying with the idea for sometime and finally took the leap and paid to attend out of his own pocket. He borrowed his parents camper van, brought a fishing rod and settled in to the area with his focus on making a success of his training. A new opportunity was presented to Ross after TKFs Business Manager, Jonny Ripley had spoken to an old friend and colleague from Oakwick Utility Arborists who just happened to be looking for an extra pair of hands. Ross went to meet the MD of Oakwick for an interview at the end of March and was offered the position. For Ross the timing couldn’t have been better. He finished his training with us on the 31st of March and started his new job on the 2nd of April !!!

Many many congratulations to Ross. This doesn’t happen every day but it does go to show that sometimes taking the risk does really pay off.

Another 1 month intensive training course has flown by … in fact it’s zoomed by! And by Eck, (up north speak for mild surprise) …. we do get the meet some characters.

This bunch have been a real pleasure, as have previous groups, although how Stuart ever stood up in a submarine really is beyond me
Between them they certainly added a sparkle and shine to our instructors days. Both Carl and Stuart are from the Navy, David is RAF and Ross is a member of the public now but did his service with the RAF some time ago. Big thanks to all of you and we hope to see you all again for the Ground Care ….. maybe!

It would appear that some members of the TKF troops may just as well move over to the beauty that is the ‘Emerald Isle’ Thanks go out to all the chaps that have crossed the waters, been questioned as to why the need so many chainsaws in their boot and travelled and paid the toll roads!! The feedback we get for all of our instructors is FANTASTIC and thanks to their effort we hope to be working across Ireland for a long time to come.

I know that there are times when one forest looks just like another to the untrained eye but our man Joe Robson went to the trouble of taking a few pics while he was working over in Derrylackey…. Here they are and thank you Joe

It may come as a suprise to some that NPTC are no longer offering assessment and certification for the UA 3 and UA 4 courses! While this may affect some businesses who rely on NPTC to supply this service we as a training provider realise that Utitlity Aboriculture is a very specialised area. Should there be anyone out there who requires the delivery of the training please contact us as our instructors have years of industry specific experience.

This is our opportunity to shout out to our instructors and BIG UP the guys who have recently been working very hard over in Ireland for us!!

Tony P who sucessfully assessed an unfathomable amount of UA courses across numerous sites over several weeks and rarely saw his own front room!
Bob B more recently delivered the Strained Wire Fencing course with a 100% pass rate and a battle against the elements!
Tim K only last week braved the Irish weather and delivered CS 38 Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue & CS 39 Operate a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness courses. It is on good authourity that the chaps taking the course were exceptionally fit tree climbers and all passed with out any problems.

Well done to all of the chaps that passed and a HUGE thanks to all of our professional instructors.
