CS 48 – Powered Pole Pruners

Any person employed in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscaping and grounds maintenance that is or will be required to operate powered pole pruners. Inexperienced members may require longer than the stated guide times to fully utilise the information supplied. The course is designed to prepare candidates for assessment for NPTC Certificate of Competence unit CS 48.

Course Overview

Candidates will identify the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) required, report on its condition and locate standard marks. Gain the ability to identify faults and defects on a pruning saw and equipment and decide which they can remedy and which require specialised help. All the time Identifying health and safety features required on a pruning saw. They will carry out routine operator maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction book and/or the Lantra Awards workbook. Also, prepare the pruning saw for use with the correct fuel/oil mix and saw chain lubrication. Carry out pre-cutting safety tests and state the procedures if the pruner fails these test. Candidates will state the possible hazards / risks when carrying out maintenance or operation tasks and assess and explain the terms ‘tension’ and ‘compression’ in timber. All the while safe methods will be performed and suitable techniques used. Successful candidates will be able to organise site safety, state the procedures required and complete a risk assessment

Duration:    2 Days – Practical – novice user, (does not hold the CS 30.1)
1 Day – Assessment or 1 Day -  Practical – experienced user  (holder of CS 30.1)

2 days + Assessment: Costs including VAT and Registrations: £319.60 per person.

1 day + Assessment: Costs including VAT and Registrations: £217.60 per person.
This course can also be completed as a refresher for those who need to maintain their qualification. Cost including VAT and Registration £117.30
