CS 30 & CS 31 – Basic Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting and felling Small Trees

chainsaw-courses-2

This course is for novice operators with little or no experience of chainsaw use, who are required to operate chainsaws for both cross cutting and felling trees with a diameter at felling height between 200 and 380mm.  This course prepares the candidates to take an assessment for NPTC CS Units 30.1. 30.2 & 31

Course Overview

This 5 day practical course will enable candidates to successfully identify the necessary protective clothing required, and locate the various standards marks.
Aspects of Health and Safety surrounding Chainsaw operation, maintenance and performance are covered. The candidate will clearly understand the corrective action to take should a problem arise such as removing a trapped saw from the log. All start procedures and pre-start checks are identified along with ensuring the correct stance/grip is applied during use. This course will also enable candidates to correctly assess the situation prior to free felling a straight open grown tree. This is done with the aid of wedges and /or a felling lever. Candidates will be successful in removing tree limbs, cross cutting and safely stacking timber. As always the candidate will have the ability to identify potential hazards and stresses and select the appropriate technique to assess and deal with timber in compression or tension. They will also take down hung up trees and be able to recognise situations where specialist help is required.
