4X4 Off-Road Trailer Handling
Those wishing to update their skills in trailer handling and/or satisfy H & S legislation regarding the Safe Use of Trailers at work. Anyone needing to tow trailers off-road as part of their work. Trainee must have completed the 1-day Basic Trailer Handling course, hold a full driving license and a 4X4 Professional off-road driving certificate.
Course overview
The course covers legal requirements (PUWER ’98) and identifies the limitations and hazards of towing off road. The candidate will be able to carry out vehicle preparation and checks along with driving and assessing the route without the trailer. They will couple the empty trailer and assess suitability of this combination for the selected route. Also, load the trailer and secure MAM of 1 tonne or less if appropriate. There is assessment of individual performance and the candidate will park, unload and if appropriate tow straps and then uncouple the trailer.
