Abrasive Wheels

Any person who is required to use abrasive wheels or petrol powered saws and supervise their use.

Course Overview

The candidate will understand the nature of hazards and identify the causes and the requirements under the current legislation. They will gain an understanding of the characteristics of abrasive and their action and interpret the marking system of abrasive wheels. Visual checks and ring tests are carried out along with gaining the ability to identify what speeds should be adhered to in wheel selection. All of the main components are identified along with mounting an abrasive wheel and/or diamond blade. Candidates will understand the difference between truing and dressing a wheel, undertake dressing a wheel and identify dressers (bench grinders) and adjust work rest correctly. They will demonstrate their knowledge on abrasive wheels, diamond blades and carry out daily maintenance on petrol-powered machines. All the while, using operating precautions and maintaining awareness of avoiding hazardous conditions.
